Discover Worthington Springs
Worthington Springs grew around a natural spring that drew visitors to this part of Union County. The town's own history traces the name to early settler Sam Worthington and describes a resort period that included a concrete pool, hotel, bathhouse and recreation hall. Excursion trains brought holiday crowds, making the spring a regional destination as well as a local landmark. These are historical features, not a promise that the old resort remains open or intact.
More about Worthington Springs
A bridge and rail access connected the settlement to neighboring communities, while the spring's flow later declined and the resort era ended. Worthington Springs incorporated in 1963, shifting its story from a seasonal attraction toward a small municipal community. The town's account is a useful starting point; state legislative records are the better source for exact charter language and legal dates.
The spring gives the place its distinctive identity, but visitors should confirm current access with the town before making plans.
