Privacy policy
How CitiesIsle handles information
CitiesIsle is a public guide to American places and the local businesses that serve them. This policy explains what information the site collects, why, and the choices you have.
Last updated: October 28, 2026
Scope
This policy covers citiesisle.com pages, forms and features. CitiesIsle is part of the SpiderTaz Network. Other network sites and third-party websites linked from CitiesIsle have their own policies.
Browsing place pages
You can use CitiesIsle without an account. CitiesIsle does not have its own accounts or passwords.
CitiesIsle does not ask for or use your location. Distances, directions and the "local sky" shown on a place page are calculated from that place's published coordinates; the sky is worked out in your own browser from the place's coordinates and the current time.
Search terms you type are used to return results. Like most websites, our hosting servers keep standard technical logs (such as IP address, browser, requested page, referring page and time) to operate, secure and troubleshoot the site.
Adding a business
When you use the Add a business form, CitiesIsle stores what you enter: the business name, how it works, its services, website, ZIP code, service area, hours, your relationship to the business, and any phone number, email or street address you provide.
- Every submission is reviewed before it is published.
- Once approved, the business details become a public listing on CitiesIsle place, service and business pages and in search results.
- A phone number or email is shown publicly only if you tick "Show publicly". Otherwise it is kept private and used only to verify or correct the listing.
- A street address is shown only if you choose "Show the street address". "Keep the location private" keeps the business off distance lists and centers its map on the city instead.
- Do not submit someone else's private information. Submit only details about a business that it would expect to be public.
Reports and abuse prevention
If you report a listing, CitiesIsle stores the reason and any details you write so it can be reviewed. Approved reports can close or suspend a listing.
To limit spam, CitiesIsle does not store your IP address with submissions or reports. It stores a one-way, salted hash of it, which lets us count recent submissions from the same connection without keeping the address itself.
Contact requests
The contact form stores your name, email, subject, message, the reason you chose, your browser's user-agent and the page it was sent from, in the SpiderTaz Network's shared support ticket system so the request can be answered. Contact requests do not store your IP address.
How information is used
- Publish, correct and remove local business listings.
- Review reports and respond to contact requests.
- Operate, secure, debug and improve the site.
- Prevent spam, abuse, fraud and attacks.
- Keep records of submissions, moderation decisions and changes to listings.
Retention and security
CitiesIsle keeps information as long as reasonably needed for the listing, records, security, legal obligations, dispute handling and backups. Listing history is kept so changes can be reviewed. CitiesIsle uses reasonable safeguards, but no website or transmission is perfectly secure; do not submit sensitive information that is not needed.
Children
CitiesIsle is not intended for children under 13. Do not submit personal information about a child. If you believe a child has submitted personal information, contact us so it can be reviewed and removed.
Your choices
You can browse without submitting anything and keep only the essential cookie. You can ask us to correct or remove a listing, a submission, or information you provided, where legally and technically reasonable. Some records may be kept for security, legal, backup or abuse-prevention purposes.
Changes and contact
This policy may change as CitiesIsle adds features. The date above shows the latest revision.
