Discover Panacea
Panacea is a coastal Wakulla County community whose history has been shaped by fishing and access to the Gulf. A 1930s Florida Memory account names Panacea among the county's places with wholesale fish houses, documenting the role of seafood work in the region at that time. It is an archival snapshot, not a claim about the number or operation of businesses today.
More about Panacea
The surrounding coast includes sensitive marsh, estuary and wildlife habitat. St. Marks National Wildlife Refuge protects a broad coastal landscape nearby, but the refuge is managed separately and is not synonymous with Panacea. Its trails, roads and access points have their own rules and conditions.
Panacea's setting connects working-waterfront history with a protected natural region. For current boat access, conservation notices or visitor facilities, rely on the relevant agency or county source. This distinction helps keep the town's identity clear while showing how its coastal environment extends beyond municipal lines.
