Discover Carrabelle
Carrabelle grew around a deep-water river mouth and the work that could move through it. The city history describes an early fishing village that later became a major lumber-shipping community. Timber and naval stores moved through the natural harbor, linking the coast to forests and inland rail or river routes. The Carrabelle History Museum preserves more of that local maritime and industrial record.
More about Carrabelle
The working waterfront is still part of the town's character, although the local economy and visitor experience have changed over time. Shrimping, fishing and boating sit alongside small businesses and museums. Nearby forest and coastal lands offer trails and outdoor access, but those protected areas are regional resources rather than municipal property.
Carrabelle's location on Franklin County's coast makes it a useful point for understanding the Forgotten Coast: a place where working boats, a port and a small-town street grid meet. History here is visible in the relationship between town, river and harbor, not only in a list of historic dates.
