Discover Old Town
Old Town is a Dixie County community whose name appears in the county's early civic record. When Dixie County was organized in 1921, residents considered competing locations for the county seat; the archival survey records that Cross City was selected over Old Town and Eugene. This gives Old Town a specific place in the county's formation without implying it was incorporated or served as the final seat.
More about Old Town
The county's historical survey also traces a railway corridor through Cross City and Old Town. Rail connections once linked rural communities to wider routes, while the Suwannee River and Gulf-side landscape continue to define the geography around the area. Those waterways and protected natural lands are regional features and should not be mistaken for facilities within the community itself.
Old Town's page can be useful as a starting point for exploring this part of Dixie County: its transportation history, changing local boundaries and nearby natural setting. Current public access to parks, ramps or refuge lands should be checked with the agency that manages each site.
